Radiating from the Winspear Opera House on all sides, the Grand Portico will provide shade over three acres of the Performance Park, creating new outdoor spaces for visitors to gather and relax. To enhance the connection with the Park, an 84-foot wide section of the glass façade will be retractable to a height of 23 feet, literally opening up the Grand Lobby, Cafe and Box Circle-level Restaurant to Performance Park. From within the Winspear Opera House, the Simmons Glass Façade provides a sweeping view of the skyscrapers of downtown Dallas that line the northern edge of the Performance Park. The transparent façade provides dramatic views of the Margaret McDermott Performance Hall, which will be clad in vibrant red glass panels. The opera house's principal entrance features the 60-foot Annette and Harold Simmons Signature Glass Façade that wraps three-quarters of the way around the building, creating a transparency between the opera house and the surrounding Performance Park. The Winspear Opera House will provide state-of-the-art performance spaces for The Dallas Opera, Texas Ballet Theater, traveling Broadway productions, and numerous other performing arts organizations and touring productions that serve Dallas and the surrounding areas. The Winspear Opera House will also include the Nancy Hamon Education and Recital Hall, a space that can be used for smaller performances seating audiences up to 200, as well as classes, rehearsals, meetings and events. Before the show we enjoyed the Skyline Terrace, which served a nice "Wolf Gang Puck" inspired buffet, that included entree, beverage, and dessert.A 21st century reinterpretation of the traditional "horseshoe" opera house, the Winspear Opera House's principal performance space, the Margaret McDermott Performance Hall, will seat 2,200 (with capacity up to 2,300) and will feature retractable screens, a spacious fly-tower and variable acoustics. Escalators or glass enclosed elevators will quickly move you to the surface. I drove a Toyota Tundra Crew Max truck with no issues. These two venues offer outdoor performances and projected. There are a lot of parking attendants and plenty of room to park 'tall vehicles'. Zahner produced the canopy which covers the Winspear as well as the Strauss Square and Sammons Park. Using your phone, just show the confirmation email to the parking attendant, and you are in. Once you pay online, you will receive an email with parking confirmation information. I suggest you go online and pre-pay for the parking to ensure a spot in the underground garage. We also enjoyed the convenience of the underground parking in the "Lexus A" parking lot directly under the opera house. The LED lighted chandelier was magnificent as it moved into the ceiling, Seating was comfortable and leg room adequate, even for a tall man. My daughters loved watching the beautiful ballet performed on stage, and the music was wonderful. Lovely and I took our family(6), to the Winspear Opera house, located in the Dallas arts district, to attend the opening night of the Nutcracker.
